Kim Timpany
Kimberly Timpany is currently the Associate Director of Leadership Development in the Student Activities (SA) Department at Virginia Tech. Her responsibilities include providing guidance and assessment to current SA leadership education, development and training programs, creating opportunities for collaboration with university and community groups, and developing new leadership programs and services. She supervises the Leadership Development Team for University Unions & Student Activities (UUSA) and advises the members of the Undergraduate Student Government Association. She serves as a member of the UUSA Executive Council and represents the department on several committees and task forces. Arriving in Blacksburg in July 2007, she previously served as the Associate Director for Student Programs at The Catholic University of America. Prior to her service in Washington, DC Kim held the position of Associate Director of Recreation Services at Clemson University from 1999 to July 2004. During this time she had an inviting opportunity to complete a course and earn her certification as a Brunswick GSX Pinsetter Mechanic. Kim earned her Bachelor of Science (Psychology) Degree and an Elementary Education Teaching Certificate from Central Connecticut State University in 1997. Kim then served as a graduate assistant on the Union Operations team at Sacred Heart University where she completed a Masters in Arts in Teaching in 1999. While employed at Clemson University, she pursued classes and dual employment opportunities in the areas of Recreational Sports and Challenge Course Facilitation. At The Catholic University of America, Kim began her study of American Sign Language and Deaf culture. Kim continues to develop skills in areas related to student development earning and maintaining several certifications. She has been a “Training for Intervention Procedures”© University Trainer as well as a “Stop the Hate”© Trainer. Kim is the recipient of the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) 2004 Richard Blackburn New Professional Award and the 2009 UUSA “Collaboration Award”. Kim stays active in several professional associations and regularly presents educational sessions and workshops locally at VT and nearby universities. She enjoys attending and presenting local, regional, national and international conferences related to higher education, leadership and student affairs. In 2004, she helped found the Mid-Atlantic Leadership Educators (MALE) group and in 2009 chaired the committee that planned the Atlantic Coast Conference Intercollegiate Academic Consortium Leadership Conference. Kim serves as a member of VT-Engage steering committee and makes it a priority to include community service in her life. Kim enjoys cooking, traveling, reading, photography and spending time outdoors relaxing with her partner and her dog. |
