Julie Walters-Steele

Julie Walters-Steele is the Director of University Unions at Virginia Tech. She is responsible for all aspects of the management of four facilities. Prior to her arrival at Virginia Tech, Julie served as the Director of University Unions at Western Carolina University. Julie also served 14 years at Clemson University in a variety of roles within Student Affairs including Director of Union Programs and Major Events and Associate Director of Student Activities, and Associate Director of Student Development.

Throughout her 18-year tenure in Student Affairs, Julie has been a strong advocate for students and has enjoyed advising a variety of student organizations. She has also been involved in numerous campus building and renovation projects. An active volunteer within the University and surrounding community, Julie enjoys developing collaborative partnerships that serve the greater good.

Julie received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in English at Clemson University. Additionally, she has completed post-graduate work in Higher Education Leadership.

In her off-campus life, Julie enjoys spending time with her musical family, participating in outdoor activities; and in the cold winter – reading and writing along with an occasional ski trip.
