Brian Stanford, Facility Maintenance Supervisor for University Unions, supervises and coordinates facility maintenance needs for the four University Union facilities including Squires, Johnston, War Memorial Chapel, and the Graduate Life Center, covering more than 400,000 square feet of space heavily used by students and campus visitors. He assures that routine and emergency maintenance needs are met through a strong focus on workplace safety. Since beginning his position in 2004, Stanford has prided himself on addressing numerous safety-related projects and initiatives that promote code compliance and general safety for customers and staff.

He is consistently focused on promoting a safe and health work environment, frequently suggesting workplace safety improvements; through his diligence for safety, he has saved the department significant money with cost effective safety-related maintenance projects. His safety accomplishments include installing battery backup emergency exit signage and lighting in UUSA facilities, and developing training systems for staff on electrical code compliance, ladder safety, and maintenance equipment safety. He has the knowledge and a dedicated staff that are able to perform most solutions internally, thus saving thousands of dollars on an annual basis. He ensures that his staff is expertly trained to avoid any chance that they are working under dangerous or hazardous conditions. His supervisor commented, “Brian's efforts have been recognized by the Environmental Health and Safety Services and Physical Plant staff, and this has resulted in the development of a mutually cooperative spirit.”

Stanford's diligence in assuring workplace safety has been consistently excellent for years capped off with numerous accolades from UUSA administration for initiating and exploring workplace safety projects that elevate the safety of staff while saving the department money with cost-effective maintenance planning. He enjoys hunting, fishing and many other outdoor activities with his family. He also is actively involved within his church and is currently working towards a degree through Liberty University.
