BreakZONE Employment

Lead Recreation Assistant ($7.28)

Serves as the model of customer service within the BreakZONE, and performs duties on a "lead by example" basis. Acts as the on-site director and marketing manager to several specific recreation programs and services. Initial contact in case of scheduling emergency, assumes responsibility for bowling machines during regular operations and special bowling events, as well as coordinates with other student staff on these issues when necessary. Position includes beginner leader/supervisory responsibilities to include training new employees, with a concentration on delegation of responsibility and overseeing personnel task systems. Students in these positions are required to meet departmental student leadership development expectations. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Interest in gaining basic administrative experience
  • Generally, UUSA work experience is required
  • Experience in programs or special events
  • Interest in responsibilities beyond basic customer service
  • Interest in working a minimum of two consecutive semesters

Preferred:

  • Interest in performing as a leader among peers
  • Interest in improving and upgrading programs
  • Interest or experience in advertising or promotions

Recreation Assistant ($6.55)

Serves as the initial customer service agent in the BreakZONE. These positions operate cash management computers and Hokie Passport equipment, following specific cash-handling policies. Students are responsible for assisting in the quality and efficient operations of all BreakZONE programs and services. Assist in the upkeep and repair of bowling equipment. Continually manage and enforce all area guidelines and policies, and work efficiently among a four-member team. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Any cash handling experience
  • Any customer service experience
  • Interest in working at least two consecutive semesters

Preferred:

  • Recreation programming knowledge or interest
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Initiative and innovation

Bowling Maintenance Specialist ($6.55)

Serves as student electrical, mechanical, and maintenance specialist for the BreakZONE's bowling center. Responsibilities include ongoing lane and machine maintenance. Student assists full-time mechanic with regular and specific pinspotter mechanical maintenance. Position averages 10 hours per week, with opportunity for additional hours through coverage of special programs and events. Serves as initial student contact for bowling support. No experience is required, but helpful. Position will be fully trained by full-time mechanic and Recreation Center Manager.

Preferred:

  • Pleasant demeanor and communication skills
  • Ability to work unsupervised
  • Any mechanical experience
