Virginia Tech Hosts Students from Tecnológico de Monterrey
BLACKSBURG, Va., October 22, 2007 – Fourteen guests (two advisors and 12 students) from Tecnológico de Monterrey (Monterrey Tec) will visit Virginia Tech this week, to learn about Tech’s SGA and student led organizations, as well as residence life. The visit is sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs and hosted by Virginia Tech’s The Leadership Development Office, The Department of Student Activities, Student Government Association, Virginia Tech Union, Mexicano Group, and University Unions staff. The group arrives this Wednesday, October 24, and stays through Sunday, October 28.
While in the New River Valley, the group will attend the Blue Ridge Summit Leadership Conference, Saturday, October 27. The 6th annual Blue Ridge Summit, held this year at Radford University, offers leadership skill building and education, networking opportunities, and programming for all leadership levels. It is sponsored by Virginia Tech's Department of Student Activities, Radford University, and Roanoke College.
The Monterrey Tec group has also scheduled time to learn about student leaders at Virginia Tech by presenting and attending information sessions, taking a university tour, and enjoying a variety of programmatic offerings. The guests will also have opportunities to hike to the Cascades (led by University Unions Venture Out manager Jason Stancil), watch the football game against Boston College at a tailgate party, and tour the haunted cave at Dixie Caverns – activities which will provide social networking with Tech students.
Monterrey Tec is a multi-campus university system with academic centers in different regions of Mexico; fifteen liaison offices throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America; and virtual centers throughout the world. It has more than 95,000 students. Every other year a group from Virginia Tech visits the Monterrey Tec campus in Monterrey, which is the capital city of the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo León.
Virginia Tech’s Leadership Development Office is a part of University Unions & Student Activities [UUSA], a unit within the Division of Student Affairs at Virginia Tech. UUSA complements the academic program by providing a variety of activities, educational opportunities, programs, facilities, and services that enhance student development and enrich the quality of campus life at Virginia Tech.
