Virginia Tech's Off Campus Housing Fair Set for February 11
BLACKSBURG, Va., January 29, 2009 – On Wednesday, February 11, Virginia Tech Off-Campus Housing (VTOCH) will host its spring ‘09 housing fair. The fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Commonwealth Ballroom of Squires Student Center. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend, free of charge.
There will be more than 40 different vendors at the fair, including numerous property management companies as well as internet and cable providers. Students can obtain valuable off-campus housing information and have some fun in the festive environment. Resources also include a video titled "Moving Off Campus at Virginia Tech: Play by Play," designed to educate students about being a first-time renter and ease the transition between college and becoming a member of a civic community. There will be free giveaways all afternoon as well as free pizza. Held each semester, the housing fair draws about 2,700 guests throughout the day.
Virginia Tech Off-Campus Housing (VTOCH) provides many resources to those seeking a living space outside of the university residence halls. Available resources include: apartment guides, bus schedules, legal information, and detailed information about each apartment and realty company in the Blacksburg area. VTOCH acts as a liaison between the customer and the housing supplier.
The VTOCH website at www.vtoch.uusa.vt.edu is a valuable resource for those seeking off-campus housing. Website users can find detailed information about people looking for or offering housing, ways to research options, as well as a message board where students can post roommate wanted listings or furniture for sale.
The VTOCH office is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located at 121 Squires Student Center, on the first floor across from the Au Bon Pain kiosk. VTOCH can be reached at vtoch@vt.edu, by phone at 540.231.3466, or by fax at 540.231.5430. The VTOCH staff encourages all students to attend the fair to look at the different housing options available to them. Students can also drop by the office in order to meet with a staff member one-on-one to learn more detailed information about VTOCH services.
VOTCH is a service of University Unions & Student Activities (UUSA). UUSA, a unit within the Division of Student Affairs at Virginia Tech, complements the academic program by providing a variety of activities, educational opportunities, programs, facilities, and services that enhance student development and enrich the quality of campus life at Virginia Tech. For more information on UUSA activities, visit www.UUSA.vt.edu or email Sandy Broughton at Siemens@vt.edu.
