    Maroon 5 is an American rock band. Since debuting in 2002, the band has sold over 10 million albums in the United States and nearly 15 million worldwide. Maroon 5 released their debut album Songs About Jane, but the album first topped Billboard charts in the US in 2004. Songs About Jane contained four hit singles: "Harder to Breathe", "This Love", "She Will Be Loved" and "Sunday Morning".

    The Office for Equity and Inclusion and Virginia Tech Union Lively Arts, are proud to announce their unprecedented partnership to bring you the much anticipated, “Fourth Annual Gospel concert”, on March 20, 2010. This lively and energizing, yearly attraction now boasts over 2,000 fans from the New River Valley and beyond. The extraordinary talents of The Gospel Concert includes past performances by Grammy-nominated artists, Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond, and one of gospel music’s best-sellers, Myron Butler. These powerhouse talents are also joined by popular up-and-coming stars like Ontisha: The Church Girl, and Ziel. Every year gets bigger and better, and 2010 is sure to get everyone off their feet and into the aisles! Lively Arts Season ticket holders will have a ticket included in their season mailing. Artist will be announced in early summer 2009.

    Dynamic, Intense and Passionate are just some of the words used to describe the innovative work of instrumental guitarist and composer, Dominic Gaudious. Working mainly with six and twelve-string acoustic guitars and incorporating exotic instruments such as the Australian Didgeridoo, Dominic created a uniquely intricate playing style which blends the sounds of Classical, Jazz, Flamenco, Rock, and World-Beat.

    He’s performed at the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, the Australian Embassy, Montreux Music Festival, National Geographic, opened for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Pat Benatar, Kip Winger, appeared with the well-respected jazz ensemble Acoustic Alchemy. Often compared to Michael Hedges, Eddie Van Halen and Al DiMeola, Dominic’s appealing sound has been featured on Echoes, Hearts of Space, National Public Radio and many local and syndicated stations throughout the world.

    Director Bob McGrath imparts his personal stamp on this contemporary production of a Shakespeare classic, creating a theatrical world of visual projections with a sonic score and live performance by Haitian-American artist Daniel Bernard Roumsin (DBR) on electric/acoustic violin. Theatre faculty member Michael Anthony Williams performs the title role. It’s sure to be a unique look at the age-old and on-going struggles of human relations.

    Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, and other ancient allegorical figures are juxtaposed with modern-day family against an epochal Ice Age, Noah’s flood, war, book burning, and more. Wilder’s unconventional drama, a fun and complicated spectacle written in 1942, reveals the cyclical nature of human existence and man’s unwavering resilience to survive and build new worlds over and over again.     One of the most produced plays in the 20th century canon, Our Town resonates through time with its simple expression of quintessentially American values – practical and useful, lovely in our ordinariness, yet ever dreaming and swept along by a sense of the eternal everywhere in our midst. Combining expressive movement with a rich landscape of music and imagery, this final production of our celebratory season is directed by quest artist and VT theatre alum Andrew Belser.

    To celebrate the bicentennial of the extraordinary American writer Edgar Allan Poe, Virginia Tech pianist Tracy Cowden commissioned a set of songs from award-winning composer Gregory J. Hutter. For the world premiere of these songs, Tracy will be joined by Renaissance Music Academy faculty members soprano Ariana Wyatt and cellist Benjamin Wyatt. The concert will also feature Patricia Raun, director of the School of Performing Arts and Cinema.
