If you need information on Undergraduate Admissions or Graduate Admissions please use these links.
You will receive your I20 (if you are applying for an F-1 visa) or DS2019 (if you are applying for a J-1 visa) through the mail with a letter of acceptance to Virginia Tech. You must then begin the immigration process immediately. Anyone seeking a visa from an embassy or consulate abroad must pay the SEVIS I-901 fee. Please read the information available on the Embassy website, on the Education USA website, and “10 points to remember when applying for a nonimmigrant visa ”. Before signing your I20 you should understand your obligations. Also, plan for your arrival at the Port of Entry. Please remember to report to the Cranwell International Center as soon as you arrive on campus.
We have created a Pre-departure brochure to assist you in preparing to come to our university. Please take a moment to read this important material on: Preparing for travel, financial and health matters, housing, adjustment, important contact numbers, and other important information. Please pay special note to the Immunization requirements and Health Insurance Requirements.
Students should plan to travel by airplane to the Roanoke Regional Airport. There is bus service from Roanoke to Blacksburg on the Smartway Bus. There is no public transportation from other airports.
Students are encouraged to consider establishing a relationship with individuals in the community through the International Friendship Program. You will also find useful information about Blacksburg and International Student Organizations.
The Cranwell International Center offers many Orientation programs beginning in early August. This will help you with many tasks. Students should read about the on-campus and off-campus housing options. Please plan your arrival in Blacksburg to allow sufficient time to complete the university’s procedures.
