GLOBAL AMBASSADORS PROGRAM
Ut Prosim with a Global Spin!

Global Ambassadors are student leaders charged with the dual mission of welcoming new international students to the Virginia Tech community and mentoring them throughout their first year, and spreading awareness about other countries and cultures on campus and in the broader community. We encourage returning Study Abroad students, students who have a strong interest in learning about the world and international students to apply for this rewarding volunteer opportunity. This is a great way to engage in the university’s challenge of Ut Prosim and gain invaluable leadership and intercultural experience for the future.

Ambassador Responsibilities

• Serve as International Orientation Leaders in August and January
• Mentor students throughout their first year to help them transition to a new environment
• Participate in campus and community outreach projects during International Educational Week in the fall and International Week in the spring
• Work in teams to program a community-wide event each semester
• Assist in the training of next year’s Global Ambassadors
• Attend monthly program meetings to receive ongoing cross-cultural and leadership training

Who Can Apply
Any returning Virginia Tech student who can demonstrate the following may apply to be a Global Ambassador:

• A strong desire to help welcome international students from all over the world to the VT community
• Commitment to helping new internationals adjust successfully to life at VT and in the US
• Dedication to developing intercultural awareness and sensitivity on campus and in the local community
• Availability to participate in the program from August 2009 through April 2010

Application materials will be reviewed and successful candidates will be invited for individual interviews the week of March16. Applicants will be evaluated and notified of their admission to the program by March 23.
